PM Narendra Modi will visit Japan on August 29 for his first annual summit with Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba. This will be Modi’s eighth visit to Japan since 2014, showing the strong ties between the two countries.
The two leaders will attend the 15th India-Japan summit to discuss cooperation in defence, trade, space, and technology.
Reviewing the Partnership
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “During the visit, the two prime ministers will review the special strategic and global partnership between India and Japan, including defence and security, trade and economy, technology and innovation, and people-to-people exchanges, as well as discuss issues of regional and global importance.”

It also added, “The visit will reaffirm the longstanding special bond of friendship between the two countries.”
Defence and Security
India and Japan have been working closely in defence. Both countries developed a new system for the Indian Navy called the Unified Complex Radio Antenna (UNICORN). The summit will also give the leaders a chance to discuss security in the Indo-Pacific region, where both countries are concerned about China’s growing influence.
Working Together in Space
Space research is another key area of cooperation. India’s ISRO and Japan’s JAXA are working together on the Lunar Polar Exploration (LUPEX) mission. The mission will explore the Moon’s southern region, where scientists believe water ice may be found.
Trade & New Projects
The two leaders will also review economic ties. Japan has been investing heavily in India’s projects, such as the high-speed rail. At the summit, new projects in technology, green energy, and innovation are expected to be launched. Both countries also want to make supply chains stronger and reduce dependence on China.

Strong & Growing Relationship
This 15th summit shows that India and Japan’s friendship is getting stronger. Both countries believe in democracy, want to grow their economies, and work together on security. Modi’s visit shows that India and Japan are ready to deepen their partnership at a time when the world is facing many challenges.
