Osamu Suzuki, who steered Suzuki Motor Corp for over four decades, was credited with introducing the iconic Maruti 800 car, which transformed the Indian automotive industry. Suzuki’s leadership helped expand the brand’s global presence while also making a significant impact on India’s car market.
On a visit to Japan last year, Modi discussed with Suzuki plans to further enhance the investment opportunities in India in respect of expansion into India for production facilities for electric vehicles and batteries. He also discussed the possibilities to encourage local innovation through various initiatives such as the Japan-India Institutes of Manufacturing (JIM) and Japanese Endowed Courses (JEC).
Reminding Suzuki of the discussions they had earlier, Modi complimented Suzuki on his contribution to India’s automotive industry. “Suzuki Motors’ transformational role in India’s automotive industry is indeed incontestable,” he said.
While paying tribute, Osamu Suzuki had appreciated the reforms initiated by PM Modi, saying that those changes were helping India emerge as a “Model Landscape” with Japanese investors backing its self-reliance efforts.
