e-VITARA: The Electric SUV for Global Takeoff
The e-VITARA, which had been revealed as part of the Bharat Mobility Global Expo held earlier this year, has finally rolled out for commercial production. This SUV is built on the 40PL dedicated EV platform, co-developed with Toyota, thus reflecting Suzuki’s global strategy to compete in this changing electric segment.
Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, Suzuki Motor Corporation President Toshihiro Suzuki announced that the Japanese manufacturer will invest 70 thousand crores in India over next 5-6 years.
The two battery packs offered to customers are 49kWh with 144hp and a bigger variant of 61kWh producing 174hp. On high-end trims, customers would find a dual motor All Gripe, all wheel drive system for added performance and versatility. India, the Global Hub of EV Manufacturing
With e-VITARA starting exports, Suzuki has converted this operation in India to its global production base for electric vehicles. In FY25 alone, Maruti Suzuki exported over 3.32 lakh cars while selling nearly 19 lakh units within the Indian market. With the electric SUV now joining the export kitty, India’s automotive footprint will further enhance and be an additional part of the government’s vision of ‘Make in India for the World’.
Investing in cutting edge EV technology while localizing critical components like lithium-ion batteries will pave the way for India to emerge as a leader in the green mobility revolution. The launch of e-VITARA changes not only the groove of a new car but also indicates that India is tackling global perception it is ready to drive the future of sustainable transportation.
