Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir has reportedly suggested that Jamnagar’s Reliance Industries could be a possible target during any military conflict in the future. This harsh and threatening speech is said to be the first time that any Pakistani official has openly indicated the possibility of striking India’s key oil infrastructure.

While addressing a private dinner gathering in Tampa, Florida, Munir openly made these remarks. Munir also claimed that he recently approved a post featuring Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani alongside a Quranic verse. He said that he approved the post during a recent standoff with India to showcase what Pakistan will do next time.

About the Verse

The verse from Surah Al-Fil (The Elephant) is often transcribed as an allegory for an aerial strike in modern warfare. Historically, it is called the ‘year of the elephant’. Around 570 CE, an army led by the ruler of Yemen, Abraha was destroyed by divine intervention as flocks of birds dropped stones made of baked clay.

Munir tried to single out a person by naming Mukesh Ambani, who is the ambassador of India’s economic power and global influence.

During the same event, Munir also threatened with ‘nuclear power’, saying that Pakistan will consider such options if it faced an existential threat in the future.

MEA Responds to Munir

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) strongly criticized the words of Asim Munir. MEA asserted that India will not bow down to any nuclear blackmail. The ministry also said Munir’s comments ‘reinforced the well-held doubts about the integrity of nuclear command and control in Pakistan’, where the military is ‘hand-in-glove’ with terrorist groups.

In response, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said, “Pakistan strongly rejects the immature remarks made by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs earlier today…”
