Punjab government dismissed reports saying it purchased new Land Cruiser cars for the CM’s convoy.

The Punjab government strongly rubbished the reports about acquiring new Land Cruiser cars, reportedly costing ₹40 crore for the Chief Minister’s convoy, labeling such reports baseless.

Officially, these vehicles were part of the convoy were changed every eight years for security reasons and operational demands. The last lot had been bought in 2016.

In 2019, during the tenure of Captain Amarinder Singh, the Home Department had made a proposal to replace the cars of the convoy.

The Finance Department did not agree with the proposal then, and the plan was put off. Now, under the AAP government, the decision to replace these vehicles has again been denied, and the cars have been used for nine years instead of the eight years.

The AAP government emphasized that no approval for new vehicles has been granted and pointed fingers at social media for disseminating fake news to the citizens. Officials reasserted financial discipline and transparency, calling citizens to rely on verified information in order not to fall for misinformation campaigns.
