Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is likely to step down on Monday (November 17) as part of the process to form the next government.
JD(U) and NDA Partners Call Key Meetings
Nitish Kumar, who also serves as the JD(U) national president, has called a meeting of his party’s Legislative group on Monday. All other allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) have scheduled similar Legislative Party meetings on the same day.
After these internal meetings, the NDA leaders will hold a joint session to elect the new leader of the NDA Legislative Party, who will head the government. Since the morning, newly elected MLAs have been visiting Nitish Kumar at his official residence to discuss the upcoming changes.
Top Leaders Visit Nitish Kumar
Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) chief Upendra Kushwaha and senior BJP leader Nityanand Rai also met Nitish Kumar, indicating active coordination among alliance partners. Sources suggest that early discussions on how ministerial portfolios will be shared have already begun.
As the BJP has emerged as the largest party, it is expected to secure the biggest portion of Cabinet positions, followed by JD(U), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), and RLM.
New Government Expected Before November 22
The current government’s term ends on November 22, 2025, so all formalities including the swearing-in ceremony must be completed before that date. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to attend the oath-taking ceremony.
