Following India’s first-ever Women’s World Cup win, Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded the team’s “spectacular” performance, noting their “great skill and confidence.” The message came a day after their 52-run victory against South Africa in Navi Mumbai, as the country erupted in celebration and pride.

On social media platform X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote an emotional message congratulating the women’s cricket team on their landmark win. He described the final as “spectacular,” noting the “skill and confidence” they showed on the field. He further praised their “teamwork and determination” across the tournament and said the victory would “encourage future athletes,” calling it a milestone for Indian sports.

How Did Other National Leaders React?

Other notable political figures showered the triumph with acclaim, highlighting its significance for the country. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar congratulated the “women in blue on their phenomenal triumph,” calling it a “really proud moment for Indian cricket.” Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath termed the victory “historic” in a Hindi post on X. He extended his “hearty congratulations to the world champion Indian women’s cricket team” and declared the players as the “pride of the nation,” ending his message with “Bharat Mata ki Jai.”

The Indian team’s triumph in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 final is noteworthy in the nation’s sports history. After defeating South Africa, Team India joined the elite fraternity of Australia, England, and New Zealand as just the fourth team to ever win the coveted trophy.
