Preliminary investigations show that it was the explosion of a helium balloon that took place while the vendor was filling the balloons.

The strength of the explosion had triggered panic among the onlookers, who had assembled in large numbers because of the Christmas season, the flower show, and cultural programs associated with the winter festival.

How many Casualties Reported

The palace was constructed over the years in a way that makes it a representation of the Wadiyar dynasty that once ruled the place. Thousands of visitors daily throng the palace when there are festivities.

Safety Gaps & Government Response

The police force, the forensic team, anti-sabotage units, as well as dog squads, were deployed instantly in the area to ensure that nothing foul was involved. It has been reported that the authorities have found the incident to be of an accident nature however, the results are to be confirmed for the possible breach of safety standards.

This unfortunate incident has reignited the need for better regulation of vendors with gas cylinders as well as better crowd control in large events. The recent events in Mysuru will ensure that celebrations without proper safety parameter consideration carry dire outcomes.
