“Mummy, Papa, Forgive Me”: Class 11 Student Dies by Suicide After Failing JEE

Aditi Mishra, an 18-year-old engineering aspirant, died by suicide on Wednesday (February 12), leaving behind a heartfelt apology note for her parents. Her death came a day after the JEE results were announced, in which she was unable to pass. Deeply distressed by the outcome, Aditi ended her life by hanging herself.

A suicide note discovered in her room read: “Sorry mummy papa, forgive me. I could not do it.”

Aditi had been preparing for the JEE for two years at Momentum Coaching Center, located in Betiahata under the Cantt police station area in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. She lived at Satyadeep Girls Hostel, sharing a room with another student.

On Wednesday morning, Aditi came out of her room, after receiving her exam results, spoke to her parents, and even asked her father to recharge her mobile phone. Her face looked emotionally shaken. Her roommate was not in the room then. Upon returning, the roommate knocked on the door but received no response. When she peered inside, she found Aditi hanging with a noose made from a stole. She immediately alerted the hostel warden, who then informed the police.

During their investigation, authorities recovered Aditi’s suicide note, which read: “Sorry mummy papa, forgive me. I could not do it. this was the end of our relationship. you guys don’t cry. you guys gave me a lot of love. I could not fulfill your dreams. you guys please take care of Choti. she will definitely fulfill your dreams. Your beloved daughter- Aditi.”

Aditi’s family, who reside in Mishraulia village in the Sant Kabir Nagar district, have been informed of the tragic incident. Her body has been sent for postmortem. Superintendent of Police (City) Abhinav Tyagi stated that the exact cause of death will be determined following the autopsy.
