Mumbai Chawl Collapses in Bandra; 10 Rescued, 7 Trapped

A chawl collapsed in Mumbai’s Bandra injuring many, while in Delhi, a building collapse killed six family members and injured others in a tragic weekend.

In a separate but unrelated accident, a four-story residential building collapsed early Saturday in Delhi’s northeast Welcome district, killing six members of the same family, including a two-year-old girl. Eight others were injured in the collapse.

The victims have been named as Abdul Matloob (50), owner of the building, his wife Rabia (46), their sons Javed (23) and Abdulla (15), daughter Zubia (27), and granddaughter Fozia, who was two years old. Their bodies were recovered from the wreckage and taken to GTB Hospital, a senior police officer said.

Among the injured were Matloob’s two other sons, Parvez (32) and Naved (19), as well as Parvez’s wife Siza (21) and their one-year-old son Ahmad.

Additionally, four people from a neighboring building were injured after debris struck their home. The victims include Govind (60), his wife Deepa (56), his brother Ravi Kashyap (27), and Ravi’s wife Jyoti (27).
