Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla, accused of murdering merchant navy employee Saurabh Rajput, are experiencing severe drug withdrawal in Meerut District Jail. As a result, they refuse to eat and continuously demand narcotics.
Accused Placed in Separate Barracks
Since their arrest, jail authorities have kept Muskan and Sahil in different barracks. A prison officer described their drug dependency as severe. Therefore, officials have taken extra precautions to prevent them from harming themselves or others.
Brutal Murder and Escape
On March 4, Muskan and Sahil stabbed Saurabh to death. Then, they chopped his body into pieces and hid it in a cement-filled drum. To avoid suspicion, they escaped to Himachal Pradesh, where they played Holi, cut a cake, and posed for photos. Eventually, they returned to Meerut on March 17, where police arrested them.
Jail Struggles: Withdrawal and Drug Demands
After their arrest, the court sent them to judicial custody. However, on her first night in jail, Muskan’s health started deteriorating. Doctors diagnosed her with severe drug addiction and immediately began treatment. Meanwhile, Sahil caused chaos and repeatedly demanded drugs. He showed extreme restlessness without marijuana, whereas Muskan insisted on receiving morphine injections.
Refusing Food Despite Treatment
Since both had regularly used injectable drugs, their withdrawal symptoms worsened. Consequently, the jail’s de-addiction center started treating them, while the prison’s medical team monitored their condition closely. In addition, both refused to eat, which is a common withdrawal symptom. According to officials, they will likely take at least ten days to regain stability.
