MEA Issues Statement Commending Trump-Putin Summit! Promotes ‘Dialogue and Diplomacy’

MEA has commended the Trump-Putin summit that took place in Anchorage, Alaska and said that dialogue and diplomacy are the only way forward.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued a statement in relation to the recent Trump-Putin summit that took place in Anchorage, Alaska. Showing support to the summit, the statement reads, “The leadership in pursuit o peace is highly commendable.”

MEA Commends Trump-Putin Summit

India welcomes a discussion between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American President Donald Trump that took place in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday. The meeting saw the two world leaders sit down for three hours discussing key issues, with Trump hoping to end the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Although the meeting did not conclude with peace agreements between the two warring nations, Trump has said that a second meeting is being arranged. And it’s up to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to negotiate peace with Putin.

“India welcomes the Summit meeting in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin of Russia. Their leadership in the pursuit of peace is highly commendable,” read a statement from MEA.

The MEA commended the progress made in the meeting, given that this was the first time both parties had met since 2019. They also said that dialogue and diplomacy are the only way forward, and everyone is looking forward to seeing the Russia-Ukraine war come to an end. 

“India appreciates the progress made in the Summit. The way forward can only be through dialogue and diplomacy. The world wants to see an early end to the conflict in Ukraine,” MEA on the recent Trump-Putin summit in Alaska.

What Has Happened Since the Trump-Putin Summit?

The Trump-Putin summit concluded with a joint press conference between the two parties on Friday. The two addressed media questions and gave the media an overview of their meeting. Although a peace agreement was not reached, Trump has shared plans to arrange a meeting between Russia and Ukraine to negotiate peace. 

As per Trump, he has been requested to be part of the peace negotiation from both parties as they move closer to settling the years-long dispute.

In recent developments, Zelensky took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to share an update on the trilateral meeting. In his post, he said that he, along with other European leaders, was on a call with POTUS to discuss a second meeting involving all three parties—USA, Russia and Ukraine. He added that he will be meeting the American President on Monday to discuss the plans to end the years-long conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

“On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C., to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war. I am grateful for the invitation,” Zelensky wrote in his post on X.
