Mauritius’ Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, Jyoti Jetun, commended the strong India-Mauritius partnership and applauded India’s rapid economic progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

In an exclusive conversation with ANI, Jetun remarked, “India’s leadership is something not to be spoken about, but to be seen in action. We don’t have to put it in words to see the economic development that has happened.”

India’s Role in Global Growth

Jetun emphasized that India’s significance extends far beyond Mauritius. “India is a very important market for Mauritius and for the world. India’s economy is growing rapidly; it is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. India is projected to become the third-largest economy in the world, and this presents huge potential and opportunities,” she said.

She noted that Mauritius is focusing on sectors like FinTech, IT, healthcare, renewable energy, and the ocean economy—fields where India has already invested and where deeper cooperation is expected.

Shared History and Cultural Roots

The minister reflected on the deep connections between the two nations, pointing out that most Mauritians trace their ancestry back to India. “We have a very deep-rooted ancestral, cultural, and linguistic relationship with India, and this bond is very, very deep-rooted and strong,” she said. She added that in recent years, both countries have been working to strengthen economic ties, building on this historic foundation.

High-Level Visits and Growing Diplomacy

Jetun recalled with pride that PM Modi was the Chief Guest at Mauritius’ Independence Day celebrations earlier this year. “It was our great pleasure when PM Modi came to Mauritius. He was the first head of state to visit Mauritius after the election of the new government, so it was a matter of great pride for us,” she said.

She further revealed that the Mauritian Prime Minister is expected to visit India soon to expand cultural bonds into stronger economic relations.

Festivals Strengthening People-to-People Bonds

Highlighting shared traditions, Jetun noted that Indian festivals are celebrated with enthusiasm in Mauritius. “All Hindus celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with great enthusiasm. Ganesh Chaturthi, Shivratri, Diwali, Ugadi, all Indian festivals are celebrated with great enthusiasm in our country,” she said.

A Relationship Defined by Trust

The India-Mauritius relationship is rooted in trust, cooperation, and shared values. According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, this partnership includes collaboration in maritime security, capacity-building, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people ties ensuring the relationship continues to thrive.
