In a significant boost to Haryana’s power infrastructure, Union Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal has sanctioned a landmark Rs 3,600 crore initiative aimed at modernizing and upgrading power distribution systems in the critical industrial hubs of Gurugram and Faridabad.
The decision comes as part of a broader strategy to address the rapidly increasing power demand in these districts, which has surged by 8-10% annually. Following a comprehensive review of the power distribution performance across the National Capital Region, including these key cities, the Ministry of Power has endorsed this ambitious plan under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, a flagship program of the Government of India.
The approved projects will encompass extensive upgrades across both districts. Specifically, the plan includes the installation of 20 new Gas Insulated Substations—12 in Faridabad and 8 in Gurugram—along with the laying of 3,500 km of underground cabling. Additionally, approximately 5,000 new Distribution Transformers and Compact Substations will be commissioned, and 486 existing feeders will be bifurcated into 821 to enhance distribution efficiency.
Furthermore, the modernization efforts will integrate advanced automation technologies, significantly improving fault detection and power restoration processes. This development promises to not only bolster the reliability and quality of power supply but also enhance safety and aesthetics in congested areas by reducing overhead cabling.
With these transformative projects, Gurugram and Faridabad are set to become more resilient and future-ready, ensuring that the growing demands of these vibrant cities are met with robust and reliable power infrastructure.
