Mahant Ravindra Puri Opposes Non-Hindu Shops at Mahakumbh, Cites Hygiene Concerns

Akhil Bhartiya Akhada Parishad (ABAP) chief Mahant Ravindra Puri recently stated that non-Hindus should not be allowed to set up shops at the Mahakumbh-2025 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. He voiced concerns about hygiene and safety, claiming that allowing non-Hindus to run tea shops, juice stalls, or flower shops could lead to unsanitary conditions. “If they are given these shops, they will spit and urinate, and our Naga saints will be forced to take action,” Puri told IANS.

Call for Cleanliness and Safety at the Event

Puri emphasized the importance of maintaining the cleanliness and sanctity of the Mahakumbh. “Our fair must be beautiful, clean, grand, divine, and peaceful,” he said. According to Puri, keeping non-Hindus away is crucial to preserving the safety and purity of the event.

Prime Minister Modi’s Call for Unity and Brotherhood

Puri’s statement came shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for unity in his final Mann ki Baat episode of the year. Modi urged citizens to eliminate division and hatred from society. He praised the Kumbh Mela as an embodiment of unity in diversity, where everyone is treated equally. “The Kumbh brings together people from various backgrounds and traditions, creating a global example of unity,” Modi explained.

Opposition from the All India Muslim Jamaat

The proposal to restrict non-Hindus from setting up stalls at the Mahakumbh was met with opposition from the All India Muslim Jamaat. They argued that this move would deepen divisions within society. The Jamaat emphasized the importance of inclusivity and unity, especially during a major religious and cultural event like the Mahakumbh.

Ongoing Preparations for the Mahakumbh-2025

Preparations for the Mahakumbh-2025 are well underway, with significant upgrades being made to Prayagraj’s infrastructure. Efforts are focused on creating a clean, sustainable, and visually appealing environment for visitors. The event will officially begin on January 13, 2025, and the city is working to ensure a world-class experience for attendees.
