A 13-year-old girl from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, has renounced her dream of becoming an IAS officer to pursue a spiritual life. Rakhi, now named Gauri Giri, made this decision during her stay at the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj.
Family’s Journey to Mahakumbh
Rakhi’s family, including her parents and younger sister, has been staying at the Mahakumbh camp in Prayagraj since last month. They were invited by Kaushal Giri Maharaj of Juna Akhara, who has been conducting Bhagwat Katha sessions in their village for the past three years.
“One day, Rakhi expressed her wish to become a sadhvi. Believing it to be God’s will, we raised no objections,” said Reema, Rakhi’s mother.
From IAS Aspirant to Gauri Giri
Rakhi, who once aspired to serve as an IAS officer, experienced a sense of detachment from worldly life during the Mahakumbh. The family, deeply connected to Juna Akhara, willingly allowed her to join the spiritual community.
Her spiritual mentor, Kaushal Giri Maharaj, confirmed, “The family donated their daughter to the ashram without any coercion. She will now be known as Gauri Giri.”
Rituals for Spiritual Transformation
To mark her formal induction into the ashram, Rakhi’s “pind daan” and other religious rituals will be conducted on January 19. Following these ceremonies, she will be considered a part of her Guru’s spiritual family.
A Mother’s Perspective
Reema admitted she will always worry about her daughter’s well-being. “Relatives often question why we entrusted her to the ashram, but we believe it was God’s wish,” she added.
