As the counting process for 25 out of 26 seats in Gujarat commenced at 8 am, initial trends indicate a significant lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Home Minister Amit Shah is leading with a margin of over two lakh votes from the Gandhinagar constituency, while Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is also ahead in the Porbandar seat. The BJP is currently leading on 22 seats in Gujarat, with the Congress leading on three seats, as per the latest trends reported by the Election Commission of India.
In a notable development, BJP candidate Mukesh Dalal was declared the uncontested winner from the Surat seat. This occurred after the nomination form of Congress candidate Nilesh Kumbhani was rejected due to irregularities in the signatures of proposers, and other candidates withdrew from the electoral race before the polls. Polling for the remaining 25 seats in Gujarat took place in the third phase of the seven-phase general elections on May 7.
The political landscape in Gujarat comprises major parties such as the BJP, the Congress-AAP alliance, as well as the SP, BSP, and various other regional parties.
