In 11-year old girl, Vedashree Toraskar has amazed the nation with her extraordinary achievement. She swam from Atal Setu to the Gateway of India in only 3 hours and 5 minutes.
The Challenge
Vedashree entered the waters of Atal Setu one morning and began her swimming journey. She pushed through the water and reached the iconic Gateway of India with her endless effort and determination.
Open water swimming is more challenging than swimming in a pool. The difficulties could range from unidentified tides and strong currents to rough water and varied temperatures. It also requires a very good physical stamina, and Vedashree had it all.

Vedashree’s journey was captured on camera and posted on social media. The video reached 7 million people and received a lot of comments praising her ambition.

The Maharashtra State Amateur Aquatic Association (MSAAA) officially recognised Vedashree’s achievement and presented her with a trophy and a certificate.
Her success is the result of years of hard work, constant practice and a powerful mindset. Her training includes long-distance swims, strength training and mental conditioning to prepare for any unprepared danger in open water challenges.
