In a momentous ceremony at the Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) in Udhampur, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed the attestation-cum-passing-out parade of the 16th batch of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs) on Tuesday. The event marked the successful completion of rigorous training for 61 probationary officers, including 45 male and 16 female officers, who took an oath to serve with dedication and integrity in the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
During his address, LG Sinha underscored the pivotal role of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in ensuring peace and security in the region. He paid tribute to police personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and praised the force’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding citizens. The Lieutenant Governor highlighted that the responsibilities of J&K Police extend beyond counter-terrorism efforts, encompassing vital coordination with other security agencies to maintain law and order.
Sinha particularly stressed the emerging challenges in modern policing, especially in the domain of cybercrime. He pointed out that criminals are continuously adapting their methods, making it imperative for officers to stay updated with digital investigation techniques. The LG emphasized the importance of having quick response mechanisms to counter the spread of misinformation on social media and other digital platforms, highlighting the use of technical tools to tackle these evolving challenges.
Addressing the issue of militancy, LG Sinha emphasized a comprehensive approach to security. He reminded officers that their duty goes beyond confronting militants to dismantling their entire support network and ecosystem. The Lieutenant Governor also underscored the significant challenge posed by narco-terrorism, stressing the importance of protecting the youth from the scourge of drug abuse.
Sinha also addressed the broader challenge of separatism, urging officers to extend their responsibility to not only dealing with militants but also those who support or encourage militancy. He encouraged the newly commissioned officers to carry out their duties with utmost sincerity and dedication, keeping in mind the evolving nature of security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir. The ceremony concluded with LG Sinha taking the Rashtriya Salute and inspecting the parade, followed by an impressive march-past by both male and female contingents. The event marked a significant milestone in the careers of these young officers, who will now assume vital roles in maintaining law and order in Jammu and Kashmir.
