Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday said the Election Commission should have managed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in a more effective manner. He joined INDIA bloc MPs in a protest march from Parliament to the Election Commission headquarters in Delhi, voicing strong opposition to alleged “voter fraud” in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, especially in poll-bound Bihar.

“What he (Rahul Gandhi) has said is true, and my statement is also the same. I don’t know what the government is afraid of. This is a peaceful demonstration by VVIPs,” Kharge stated during the march.

Top Opposition Leaders Detained by Delhi Police

The protest, which drew several senior opposition figures, saw the detention of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, TMC MP Sagarika Ghose, and other INDIA bloc MPs. Delhi Police escorted the detained leaders onto a bus and took them to the Parliament Street police station.

Rahul Gandhi: ‘Fight is to Save the Constitution’

Speaking to reporters before being detained, Rahul Gandhi stressed that the demonstration went beyond political rivalry.
“The reality is that they cannot talk. The truth is in front of the country. This fight is not political. This fight is to save the Constitution. This fight is for One Man, One Vote. We want a clean, pure voters list,” he asserted.

Priyanka Gandhi Accuses Government of Fear

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi lashed out at the ruling dispensation, accusing it of cowardice.
“Dare hue hai. Sarkaar kaayar hai. (They are afraid, the Government is a coward),” she remarked, highlighting what she called the administration’s fear of public scrutiny.

Akhilesh Yadav Climbs Barricades to Defy Restrictions

In a dramatic moment, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav scaled police barricades after security forces blocked the MPs’ route to the Election Commission office. Once on the other side, Yadav shouted, “They are using the police to stop us,” before pressing ahead with the protest.
