J&K Polls: Arrangements in Place for Violence-Free 3rd Phase says Jammu ADGP

In the wake of an encounter with terrorists in the village of Kog (Mandli) in Kathua district on Saturday, Jammu’s Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Anand Jain assured that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure a terror and violence-free third phase of assembly polls in the Union Territory.

Security Measures for Upcoming Polls

Addressing the media on Sunday, ADGP Jain confirmed that ongoing search operations are being conducted in the area to track down the terrorists. He emphasized the importance of security preparations to prevent any disruptions during the upcoming phase of elections. “We are continuing our operations, and we have also made the required arrangements for the third phase of the elections here so that there are no terror attacks or violence during the third phase,” stated ADGP Jain.

Police Personnel Casualties and Injuries

The encounter on Saturday resulted in the death of Head Constable Bashir Ahmed, while an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) sustained injuries. ADGP Jain confirmed that both the ASI and DSP are currently in stable condition following treatment.

Details of the Encounter

ADGP Jain explained that the encounter occurred after authorities received intelligence about the presence of three to four terrorists in the Kog village area. A search operation was immediately launched with the support of security forces. “We were informed about the presence of terrorists in this area, following which an operation was launched with the help of security forces in the Village Kog under the Billawar Police Station. In the exchange of fire, head constable Bashir Ahmed was martyred, and one of our DSP and ASI were injured and are now stable,” he said.

Ongoing Search Operation

The ADGP further mentioned that the search for the suspected terrorists, believed to be foreign nationals, is still underway, and more details will be confirmed as the operation progresses.
