J&K LG Manoj Sinha Reaffirms Commitment to Statehood and Development

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assured that his government remains committed to restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. Speaking at the inaugural session of the J-K Legislative Assembly’s Budget Session, he emphasized ongoing discussions with stakeholders to make this happen.

“One of the foremost aspirations of the Jammu and Kashmir people is the restoration of the full statehood. My government remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing this legitimate desire of the citizens of J-K,” he said. He acknowledged the emotional and political importance of statehood and stressed that the process must ensure peace, stability, and progress.

Commitment to Unity and Good Governance

Sinha highlighted Jammu and Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage and its long-standing tradition of harmony. He assured that the administration is working to preserve unity and diversity while maintaining peace.

He also stressed the government’s focus on transparency and accountability. “My government remains committed to transparent and accountable decision-making,” he said. The economy has seen growth in recent years, with an increase in the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), better infrastructure, and improved social conditions. However, challenges like regional disparities, unemployment, and sustainable development remain.

Major Infrastructure Push

The Lieutenant Governor praised recent infrastructure advancements. He highlighted the Sonmarg Tunnel’s inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 13. He also pointed out that two completed segments of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway have significantly reduced travel time.

“My government remains committed to fast-tracking major connectivity projects,” he said. To ensure timely completion, the administration is streamlining land acquisitions, securing forest clearances, and addressing encroachments. Expressways, highways, and ring roads in Jammu and Srinagar will move forward at an accelerated pace.

Energy Sector Expansion

Sinha also emphasized efforts to strengthen Jammu and Kashmir’s energy sector. The government is seeking support from the central government to complete key hydroelectric projects.

“These projects will collectively add 3,014 Megawatts of capacity, significantly strengthening the region’s energy security and benefiting the people,” he stated.

This budget session marks the first under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s leadership.
