Congress to replace many state in-charges in coming days ahead of crucial assembly polls 

New Delhi, June 24: With a major fling planned in the Congress, sources on Wednesday indicated that many of the general secretary having the role of incharge on at least a half of dozen of states may be relieved of their roles in coming days. 

According to party insiders, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had in recent days held meetings with Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to discuss the changes based on the performances of general secretary incharges. 

The source said that there are several states where the changes are required due to the recent roles provided to several of leaders like BK Hariprasad, Girish Chodankar, Ramesh Chenithalla and others. 

The source said that following the election results in Kerala, Chenithalla, who was looking at the role of Maharashtra in-charge will be replaced as he has been appointed a minister in the Congress-led UDF government. Similarly, Gorish Chodankar, who was handling the role of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry as in-charge has also been appointed as Goa state unit president and thus a new incharge is required in the southern state. 

The source said that similar is the story of Hariprasad, who has been appointed as Karnataka Congress chief in place of DK Shivakumar, after his elevation as Chief Minister. The source said that Hariprasad has been the in-charge of Haryana and with his new.role in Karnataka, the party is looking to appoint other leader. 

The source said that Assam in-charge Bhanwar Jitendra Singh had also resigned following the massive dubbing in the northeastern state and thus parry needs to appoint a new in-charge there. 

The source also indicated that in the election going states like Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and other states,.party is planning to have a change. 

He pointed out that in Uttar Pradesh, the party currently has Avinash Pande as in-charge and with state president Ajay Rai also coming from upper caste, party is planning for a change. 

He indicated that in Gujarat, party has Mukul Wasnik as it in-charge and there are discussions to send him to other state and bring in a new face in the western state. 

Meanwhile, a party insider claimed that Punkab in-charge Bhupesh Baghel also wants to focus on his home state Chhattisgarh as elections are due there in 2028. He also said that Sachin Pilot, who is currently the in-charge of Chhattisgarh is also eyeing the role of Rajasthan stage unit chief as tenure of current chief Govind Singh Dotasara has been complete. 

Similarly, Rajasthan in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa too wants to focus on his home state of Punjab as elections are due there. The insider said that Randhawa, a former deputy chief minister is looking fkr a bigger role in Punjab. 

Meanwhile, in states of Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal, where Rajani Patil, Krishna Allavaru and Ghulam Ahmed Mir are looking afternoon role of in-charges respectively may also be replaced in coming days. 

Even Andhra Pradesh in-charge Manuckam Tagore is also likely to be replaced and given a new role in the coming days, the insider added.
