IMD: Weather Updates Today – Heavy Showers In 7 States, Heatwave Alert In 10

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall across multiple states including Karnataka, Assam, Meghalaya, Goa, Kerala, West Bengal, and Sikkim, set for Tuesday, June 10. The alert warns residents and authorities of the potential for significant weather disruptions.

The IMD’s weather report indicates a broad area of influence, stating, “Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during the next 7 days.”

Heavy Rainfall Forecast

Heavy rainfall is expected to persist in several regions:

  • West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh: Heavy rainfall until June 14.
  • Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura: Anticipated heavy rain on June 13 and 14.
  • Telangana, Goa, and Maharashtra: Heavy rainfall forecasted for today.
  • Kerala: Heavy rain expected until tomorrow.
  • Karnataka: Rainfall likely to continue until June 13.
  • Andhra Pradesh: Heavy rain predicted on June 11 and 13.

The weather report also highlights the likelihood of thunderstorms with moderate rainfall and lightning in West Bengal, Bihar, and Odisha over the next three days, and in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh until June 15.

Heatwave Alerts

In addition to the rainfall warnings, the IMD has issued heatwave alerts for various regions. Conditions are expected to be particularly severe in:

  • Jammu Division, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Jharkhand, and Odisha: Heatwave conditions until June 15.
  • Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh: Over the next three days.
  • Uttarakhand: Until June 14.
  • Rajasthan: Over the next two days.

Specific heatwave conditions include:

  • Gangetic West Bengal: Severe heatwave from June 10-12, with continued heatwave until June 13.
  • Bihar: Severe heatwave from June 10-12, with isolated heatwave conditions on June 13 and 14.
  • Uttar Pradesh: Heatwave to severe heatwave from June 11-14, with general heatwave conditions from June 10-14.

Precautions and Safety Measures

The IMD advises residents in the affected areas to take necessary precautions, including staying indoors during peak heat hours, ensuring adequate hydration, and avoiding strenuous outdoor activities. Authorities are urged to implement measures to mitigate the impacts of both heavy rainfall and extreme heat, particularly in vulnerable regions.
