Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said his government has set up camps across the city to provide facilities for the Kanwar Yatra.
“Like every year, the Delhi government is organising Kanwar camps across Delhi for Kanwariyas where they will be provided all facilities,” Chief Minister Kejriwal said in a tweet in Hindi. The government has set up 195 camps to provide free food, water, medical facilities and mobile toilets to the pilgrims. Doctors from government and MCD-run hospitals will visit these camps regularly to provide medical assistance. CATS ambulances will be on call in case of any
emergencies.
Additionally, Delhi Traffic Police has made several security arrangements in view of the upcoming Kanwar Yatra that began yesterday. The Yatra culminates on 15 July and is expected to see a footfall of 15-20 lakh devotees travelling through the national capital. While many Kanwariyas (devotees) are expected to reach Delhi, some of them will travel through Haryana and Rajasthan via their Delhi borders. “The devotees carrying ‘kanwars’ (a bamboo or pole with two baskets slung at each end) will pass through below Apsara Border, Bhopura Border, Maharajpur Border among others,” Delhi Police said in a statement. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also welcomed the devotees of Shiva coming to Devbhoomi Uttarakhand in Kanwar Yatra. Dhami said that a separate budget was arranged by the state government for the smooth functioning of the Kanwar Yatra and efforts have been made by the state government to provide all possible facilities to the devotees.
