Punjab’s self-styled Christian pastor Bajinder Singh, who was infamous for being called the ‘Yeshu Yeshu Prophet,’ was found guilty by the court on Friday in the 2018 case of rape. He was accused of raping a woman from Punjab’s Zirakpur under pretenses when he promised to get her to foreign shores. The quantum of punishment will be determined on April 1.
While Bajinder Singh was found guilty, six other defendants in the same case were acquitted by the court. The ruling is a big milestone in the long-drawn-out case against the controversial pastor.
Past Controversies and Criminal Charges Against Bajinder Singh
Bajinder Singh has also been in the news many times for several controversies. Just a while back, a video surfaced on social media where he can be seen assaulting a man and a woman inside his office. In the clip, he could be seen slapping the man repeatedly before approaching the woman, hurling something at her, and then slapping her as well.

On February 28, a case was again filed against Bajinder Singh for sexually harassing a 22-year-old woman. In her complaint, she mentioned that she and her parents began going to Singh’s church in October 2017. Singh, according to her, took her phone number and began sending her messages. She did not tell her parents out of fear of his influence.
The survivor alleged that from 2022, Singh would compel her to sit separately in a church cabin on Sundays, where he is accused of hugging and fondling her. She went on to allege that he would threaten to get her and her family killed if she ever spoke to the police about what was happening.
History of Allegations and Raids
Bajinder Singh has been involved in several charges in recent times. In 2022, he was charged with accepting money from a family based in Delhi for treating their sick daughter, but she subsequently died. In 2023, the Income Tax Department searched his offices in connection with an investigation.
A Jat by birth in Haryana, Singh alleges conversion to Christianity a decade ago. He now operates churches in Jalandhar and Mohali and has an impressive following on social media. Though influential, trouble with the law follows him.
