Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force, Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari, shared new footage and key details of Operation Sindoor, India’s military strike against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation was launched in May after the Pahalgam attack on April 22, which killed 26 people.
Tiwari highlighted the precision of the mission, saying, “Key takeaway for us, that in less than 50 weapons, we were able to achieve conflict elimination. So this is the essential part which I want you to take away.”
Planning and Execution
He explained that immediately after the Pahalgam attack, all three services started planning responses. “Some of these plans and contingencies we keep preparing over a period of time, and we bring them out for such eventualities when we have to respond quickly,” Tiwari said at the NDTV Defence Summit.

The Air Marshal added that the forces shortlisted nine key targets from a larger list. The tactical planning began on April 29, and the strikes were executed on May 6, 7, and 9.
Tiwari noted that India’s top directives were clear: the response had to be strong and visible, act as a deterrent, and allow the armed forces complete operational freedom while preparing for potential escalation.
Operation Sindoor Strikes
The precision strikes under Operation Sindoor targeted terrorist infrastructure early on May 7. Following this, Pakistan attempted to strike Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. India responded with counterattacks on Pakistani military installations.

After four days of intense drone and missile exchanges, both countries reached an understanding on May 10 to end the conflict.
Air Defence Importance Highlighted
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also spoke at the event, emphasising the role of air defence in modern warfare. “As we saw during Operation Sindoor, the importance of air defence capability in today’s wars has increased to a great extent. In such a scenario, the Sudarshan Chakra mission will certainly prove to be a game changer,” he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the ambitious Sudarshan Chakra air defence project during his Independence Day speech. This came days after Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir reportedly hinted at targeting Indian assets in future confrontations.
The action strengthened deterrence by demonstrating India’s ability to strike precisely with a few weapons. According to officials, making these facts public shows openness and preparedness while showcasing India’s expanding military might in the area.
