The Indian Railways is all set to introduce the country’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express ahead of Diwali 2025. This new train will travel between Delhi and Patna via Prayagraj in just 11.5 hours.
Unlike regular Vande Bharat trains with only seats, this sleeper train will have beds, modern safety features, and improved interiors. It promises a more comfortable and convenient travel experience for passengers on one of India’s busiest long-distance routes.
Faster Delhi–Patna Journey
The new Vande Bharat Sleeper Express will reduce travel time between Patna and New Delhi to 11.5 hours. Currently, the journey takes anywhere from 12 to 17 hours, depending on the train. Reports say the train will leave Patna at 8 pm and reach New Delhi by 7:30 am the next morning. This makes it a convenient overnight option for passengers.
The launch comes at a time when festive travel from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to Delhi sees huge crowds, and that too especially during Diwali. The train is expected to ease congestion and provide a faster and more comfortable option for long-distance travellers.
Expected Ticket Price
The ticket fares for the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express are expected to be 10–15% higher than the Rajdhani Express, according to reports. The train is being positioned as a premium service, offering better comfort and modern amenities for travellers who take overnight trips.
Features & Design
This new sleeper model is different from the regular Vande Bharat trains because it will have sleeping berths instead of only chairs. The train will also run at a maximum speed of 180 km per hour, making it one of the fastest options on this route.
Passengers can expect several modern features, including:
- CCTV cameras for safety
- LED screens for infotainment
- Automatic doors with sensors for safe boarding
- Modern fire safety systems
- On-board announcement facilities
The train is made with advanced ICF technology by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML). Its interiors look like an aeroplane, giving passengers a comfortable and premium experience.
Why It Matters?
The Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is not just about faster travel. It shows that the government wants to add more long-distance and overnight luxury trains. Indian Railways hopes this train will make travel easier, reduce stress during busy times, and improve connections between Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi.
The Delhi–Patna route is one of the busiest in India, carrying thousands of passengers every day. The introduction of this sleeper train could be a game-changer for travelers, offering a faster, safer, and more comfortable option compared to existing trains.
