Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, accusing it of failing to fulfill promises made to farmers three years ago. His comments come from ongoing protests and indefinite hunger strikes by farmers in Punjab.
In a post on social media platform X, Kejriwal described the BJP as “arrogant” and stated that the ruling party would be held responsible if any harm came to the protesting farmers. “Farmers in Punjab have been staging sit-ins and indefinite hunger strikes for several days. Their demands are the same ones that the central government agreed to three years ago but has yet to implement,” he wrote.
Kejriwal urged the BJP to dialogue with the farmers, emphasizing their importance to the nation. “Why is the BJP so arrogant that it refuses to have a conversation?” he questioned.
He expressed concern for the farmers on hunger strikes, stating, “May God keep them safe. But if anything happens to them, the BJP will be held responsible.”
The AAP leader also alleged that the three controversial farm laws, which the Centre repealed following widespread protests, are being prepared for re-implementation under the guise of a new policy. “A copy of this policy has been sent to all states for their feedback,” he claimed.
In related news, the Supreme Court has granted the Punjab government additional time to comply with its December 20 order to provide medical aid and transfer farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a fast-unto-death since November 26, to a hospital. Advocate General Gurminder Singh, representing the Punjab government, requested three more days for compliance with the court’s order. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on January 2.
