The Election Commission of India has issued a revised schedule for the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in several states and Union Territories following formal requests from their Chief Electoral Officers. The revised timeline would apply to Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
According to the earlier program, the enumeration for these states was scheduled to conclude on December 11, with the draft electoral rolls scheduled to be published on December 16.
SIR Enumeration Deadline Extended in Six States
The ECI has now extended the SIR enumeration period for six states and one Union Territory by a week. The deadline has not been extended for West Bengal, Goa, Rajasthan, and Lakshadweep, as enumeration is supposed to end today.
Today was supposed to be the last day of voter enumeration in the SIR exercise for 11 states and three Union Territories. Kerala had, however, been given an extension till December 18. Draft electoral rolls for all states and UTs barring Kerala were scheduled for publication on December 16.
