A truck driver has escaped a disasterous accident on a slippery road in Manali, thanks to his prompt thinking. A viral video shows the small truck sliding uncontrollably into Solang Valley which was triggered by the driver’s attempt to park amidst heavy snowfall.The truck lost traction when the driver applied the brakes on the icy surface.
Reacting swift, the driver jumped out of the moving truck just moments before it plunged into the valley below. A user shared the footage on X (formerly Twitter), warning about the dangers of driving in snowfall: “It is very risky to go out with a car in the snowfall. See how this vehicle skidded and fell into the ditch. The incident took place in Solang Valley, Manali.”

Manali is a prominent tourist place in Himachal Pradesh that is always snowed during winters and sees hundreds of thousands every year. The traffic was already congested, but as it becomes icy too, it is moving slowly. A little time ago, around 1,000 vehicles were found blocked on the road linking Solang Valley to Atal Tunnel. The Kullu police rescued almost 5,000 stuck tourists, as reported by NDTV.
The Kullu police posted updates on the rescue mission, showing their efforts to help drivers navigate the slippery roads. “Due to fresh snowfall, about 1,000 tourists and other vehicles were stuck in Solang Nala. There were about 5,000 tourists in these vehicles. Kullu Police have rescued the vehicles and tourists and shifted them to safe places. The rescue operation is still in progress, they posted.

Himachal Pradesh is expected to face continued snowfall and cold waves till January 1, 2025. The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the state.
