New Delhi: After finding ‘repeated’ non-compliances in handling of ‘dangerous’ materials on IndiGo flights, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a ‘warning’ to the carrier, and has sought an Action Taken Report within a month.
The aviation regulator is said to have discovered non-compliances after a special audit at IndiGo’s engineering facility at Delhi. This came after another mishandling case concerning IndiGo emerged in January. The airline has also admitted about “spillage of cargo” in one of the flights in January.
While acknowledging the warning letter received from DGCA, the budget-carrier said, “Spillage of cargo was detected on one of our flights in January 2026 after its arrival. As a responsible airline, we immediately and proactively informed the relevant authorities following the established protocols, and subsequently shared the findings of our investigation.”
DGCA has also issued directions to the airline in this regard. To which an airline spokesperson said, “ (we) are incorporating the recommendations laid out in the same (warning letter).”
The Aircraft (Carriage of Dangerous Goods) Rules, 2026 established a stricter, certification-driven regime for transporting hazardous materials, replacing the 2003 guidelines. These rules require mandatory certification for handling dangerous goods to enhance safety and accountability.
