Thick fog once again disrupted road safety in north India after multiple vehicles collided on the Delhi–Sonipat road near Bahalgarh in Haryana on Monday. The accident occurred due to extremely low visibility, leaving at least one or two people injured, according to eyewitness accounts.
The crash added to a growing list of fog-related accidents reported across Delhi and Haryana over the past few days, as winter weather continues to affect visibility and driving conditions.
How the Accident Happened
Eyewitnesses said the accident unfolded in stages on the busy highway. Poor visibility prevented drivers from spotting vehicles ahead in time.
“First, one car hit another car. Then, one of the cars drove away, and the other remained stationary and damaged. A little while later, another car came and hit the damaged car from behind,” the eyewitness was quoted as saying.
A total of three cars were involved in the collision. One of the vehicles reportedly left the scene soon after the initial impact, while the damaged car stayed on the road and became the target of another crash.
Injuries Reported, Police Probe Underway
Another eyewitness confirmed that one or two people suffered injuries in the collision. Emergency services reached the spot shortly after the incident.
Visuals from the scene showed badly damaged cars scattered across the road as police officers conducted an investigation. Authorities worked to clear the area and manage traffic movement to prevent further accidents.
Officials have urged drivers to maintain caution during early morning and late-night hours.
Fog Continues to Disrupt Traffic in Delhi-NCR
This incident is not isolated. Dense fog has caused several accidents across Delhi, Haryana, and nearby regions in recent days.
Drivers have struggled with near-zero visibility during early hours, especially on highways and high-speed corridors. The fog has reduced reaction time and made it difficult to judge the distance between vehicles.
Traffic police have repeatedly advised motorists to use fog lights, reduce speed, and maintain safe gaps.
Earlier Fog-Related Accidents Reported
Earlier, heavy fog led to two major accidents on the Delhi–Mathura National Highway in Faridabad. In one incident, a speeding Hyundai Verna reportedly lost control, overturned several times, and crashed into the railing near Sector 28 Metro Station.
Such incidents highlight the growing danger of driving in dense fog conditions during winter.
Weather Warning Issued for North India
The India Meteorological Department had earlier issued a warning for dense fog across Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh. On Tuesday morning, visibility dropped to around 300 metres in parts of Haryana, including Ambala.
Delhi was placed on a red alert as visibility levels fell sharply across several areas. Authorities warned that fog conditions may persist, especially during early morning hours.
Advisory for Drivers
Officials continue to urge commuters to avoid unnecessary travel during peak fog hours. Drivers are advised to slow down, use fog lamps, and avoid sudden braking.
As winter fog tightens its grip over north India, authorities stress that extra caution can save lives.
