A delegation from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Delhi CM Atishi, and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, met with the Election Commission on Thursday, December 9, 2025, to address concerns over electoral irregularities in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. The delegation raised issues such as mass voter deletions, suspicious additions to the voter list, violations of the Model Code of Conduct by BJP candidate Parvesh Verma, and alleged collusion by local election officials.
The AAP leaders demanded swift action against the District Election Officer (DEO) and Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) for their role in enabling these violations and urged the Election Commission to ensure a transparent and fair election process. Speaking to the media, Arvind Kejriwal outlined the delegation’s concerns. “Although the Chief Election Commissioner was unavailable, the other two Election Commissioners graciously met us on short notice. We highlighted critical issues, including voter deletions, suspicious additions to the voter list, violations of the Model Code of Conduct, and collusion by local election officials.”
On voter deletions, Kejriwal revealed that over 5,500 names had been removed from the New Delhi constituency voter list between December 15 and January 8—equivalent to 5.5% of the total one lakh voters in the constituency. “This rate of deletion is unprecedented and suggests significant irregularities. In hearings conducted by lower-level election officials, people whose names were flagged for deletion denied submitting any applications. Of the 89 applications reviewed, 18 individuals appeared, and all categorically denied filing any request for deletion. This indicates a large-scale scam or fraud,” he explained.
Discussing suspicious additions to the voter list, he noted that 13,000 new voter registrations had occurred in just 15 days in the same constituency. “In a constituency with only one lakh voters, where did these 13,000 people suddenly come from? It’s clear that fake voters are being registered, likely brought in from neighboring states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The combined impact of these large-scale deletions and additions—affecting 18.5% of the voter list—could entirely compromise the fairness of the election.”
Kejriwal also criticized BJP candidate Parvesh Verma for openly violating the Model Code of Conduct. “Parvesh Verma is organizing job camps, distributing money, and handing out eyeglasses at health camps in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. He has even announced a job fair for January 15. These activities are clear violations of election rules. We’ve demanded that Verma be barred from contesting and that his residence be raided to uncover the extent of money being distributed. Shockingly, he’s openly boasting about these actions on social media, daring authorities to intervene.”
The AAP Convenor further alleged that local election officials were colluding with the BJP. “Election officials in the New Delhi constituency have completely surrendered to the BJP and are enabling these illegal activities. Despite our repeated complaints to the DEO and ERO, no action has been taken. They seem unwilling to act against the BJP,” he stated. Kejriwal expressed satisfaction that the Election Commission assured the delegation of strict action against these irregularities. “We trust the Election Commission to ensure that such practices are stopped and that the election process is fair,” he said.
When asked about doubts regarding the fairness of the election process so far, Kejriwal remarked, “The current practices risk turning the election into a farce. However, we trust the Election Commission and believe that, as assured, they will take decisive action to restore fairness to the process.”
