Delhi’s Weather Takes Turn: Yellow Alert in Effect After Overnight Thundershowers | IMD Issues Orange Alert

Delhi-NCR experienced predicted rainfall and strong winds overnight, following a yellow alert from the IMD.

On early Monday night, the weather in Delhi NCR took a turn as heavy rains accompanied by strong winds swept across the region last night. Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecasted the possibility of heavy rainfall in the area.

What Did the Meteorological Department Say?

For the early hours of Monday, Haryana’s Gurugram was under an orange alert, and Delhi’s neighboring cities of Ghaziabad and Noida in Uttar Pradesh were on a yellow alert. IMD has issued orange alert for the capital and NCR following the weather change.

According to the weather department, northwest India is likely to experience heavy rain, storms, lightning, and strong winds.  Areas including Jammu & Kashmir-Ladakh, western Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, western Uttar Pradesh, and eastern Rajasthan are expected to receive rainfall. Additionally, isolated hailstorms may occur in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, western Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan. From October 8 onwards, the minimum temperature in northwest India is predicted to drop by 4-5 degrees Celsius over the next two days.

What Was the Yellow Alert Issued?

The Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert, indicating potentially bad weather. Residents were advised to stay alert, keep track of the latest weather updates, exercise caution while traveling, avoid standing near electric poles and trees, and, if possible, stay indoors.

Authorities warn locals to monitor the most recent weather information and remain vigilant. People are advised to travel cautiously, stay away from trees and power wires, and stay at home if at all possible during such alerts. As an early warning, the alert minimizes disruption and ensures public safety.
