A 22-year-old woman was arrested on Friday for allegedly killing her nine-day-old daughter in West Delhi’s Tikri area.
The incident came to light on Thursday when the woman’s husband filed a complaint, reporting that he had returned home to find his daughter’s lifeless body.
Upon arrival, police discovered the child’s body with its throat slit in a room on the second floor of the house, while the mother was found in another room. The woman was subsequently arrested under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and taken into judicial custody. The police also seized the knife allegedly used in the crime.
During interrogation, the woman reportedly confessed to killing the baby because she did not want a girl child.
The family had moved to Delhi in 2019. The woman’s father works in a shoe factory in Bahadurgarh, and the couple also has a two-year-old son.
