Delhi Witnesses Power Outage, Minister Atishi Reveals Reason

As residents of Delhi, continue to deal with the prevailing challenges of water shortage and brutal heatwave, another problem has been added to the national capital’s kitty-power outage.

Delhi minister Atishi recently announced that the Mandola power grid in UP caught fire around 2:11 pm, resulting in a power outage in various parts of the city.

Taking to X, she said, ‘There is power outage in many parts of Delhi from 2:11 pm. This is due to a fire at sub-station of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) in Mandola, UP. Delhi receives 1200 MW of power from the Mandola sub-station, and therefore many parts of Delhi have been affected. The power restoration process has begun, and electricity is now gradually returning to different areas.’

Furthermore, she added, that she will talk to new power minister Manohar Lal Khattar, PGCIL and NTPC chairman respectively.

In the briefing, she also declared, that’s it’s a matter of grave concern, that national capital’s power infrastructure has failed.

In the aftermath of the outage, many users took to X, to share their grievances and complaints regarding power cuts.

Netizens Complain About Power Cuts

One user at X, accused Delhi power department of misgovernance and management failure. While another user sarcastically commented that Delhi has turned into of UP of 90s.

‘@LtGovDelhi @AtishiAAP @bsesdelhi In such scorching heat when people are being unable to resist Heat, power cut in many areas in Delhi on 11/6/24 indicate governance & management failure in Deptt. of Power in Delhi. People are even unable to register complaints. Shame.’ said X user.

Meanwhile, drawing attention towards Pragati maidan power plant, one alleged, there is major power cuts in various parts of the city due to technical glitch in Pragati maidan’s power plant and there was no electricity in east and central delhi for more than 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, the capital has recorded the minimum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius. As per IMD, various parts of Delhi are likely to witness heatwave-like conditions for next few days. As a result, orange alert has been issued from June 11 till 13.
