The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory on Sunday announcing restrictions on several major routes as Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the city to inaugurate new highway projects in Rohini.

As per the advisory, traffic movement will be affected between 6 am and 2 pm on the Tikri Border–Peeragarhi stretch of the highway and in the Rohini area.

PM Modi to Inaugurate Rs 11,000 Crore Projects

During his visit, PM Modi will formally open two major infrastructure projects:

  • The Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway

  • The Alipur–Dichaon Kalan stretch of Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II)

Together, these projects cost nearly ₹11,000 crore. Authorities say they will ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and improve road connectivity across the national capital region.

Delhi Police Traffic Advisory

According to the notice posted by Delhi Police on X, the following roads will remain closed on August 17:

  • UER-II

  • Rohtak Road (Peeragarhi to Tikri Border and Tikri Border to Peeragarhi), along with all connecting routes

Other affected routes include Bhagwan Mahavir Road and adjoining roads such as Bawana Road, Kanjhawala Road, Kanjhawala Link Road, and Badsha Dahiya Marg.

Commercial Vehicle Ban

The advisory has strictly prohibited commercial vehicles on the Tikri Border–Peeragarhi stretch of Rohtak Road. “Commercial vehicles will not be allowed on Rohtak Road from Tikri Border to Peeragarhi and vice versa,” the notice stated.

Alternate diversion points for commercial vehicles include Tikri Border, Ghevra More, Mundka Red Light, Nangloi Chowk, Bakkarwala More, Jharoda Road (under Bahadurgarh Flyover Toll), and Jharoda Nala (under Flyover, Bahadurgarh to UER-2).

Special Routes Suggested for Commuters

To reduce congestion, police have advised alternate travel routes:

  • For those travelling from Tikri Border to Peeragarhi, avoid Rohtak Road and instead take the Jharoda–Najafgarh–Nangloi Road.

  • For those going from Peeragarhi to Tikri Border, commuters should bypass Rohtak Road and use the Nangloi–Najafgarh via Jharoda route.

Advice to Commuters

The police have urged citizens to plan their journeys ahead of time and use alternative routes to avoid delays. The advisory also highlighted metro travel as a safer and faster option during restrictions. “In view of the event, commuters should plan their routes in advance and consider alternative roads to avoid inconvenience. People travelling on Rohtak Road from Tikri Border to Peeragarhi and vice versa or from and towards Rohini may consider using the metro on August 17,” the statement read.
