Two schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails on Wednesday morning, marking the second such incident this week in the national capital. Authorities immediately launched searches on both school premises.

According to a Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official, Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Malviya Nagar received a threat call at 7:40 am, followed by Andhra School in Prasad Nagar at 7:42 am.

Fire personnel, bomb detection teams (BDT), the bomb disposal squad (BDS), and the Dog Squad rushed to the schools to check for any explosives.

So far, nothing suspicious has been found, and the schools remain closed.

Earlier Incidents This Week

On Monday, 32 private schools, including DPS Dwarka, received bomb threat emails. The threats were later confirmed to be a hoax. Delhi Police said the emails were sent via Gmail, had similar content, and likely came from the same sender.

Bomb threats targeting schools are not new in Delhi. In July, several institutions, including St Thomas School (Dwarka), Vasant Valley (Vasant Kunj), Richmond Global (Paschim Vihar), Mother’s International (Hauz Khas), and Sardar Patel Vidyalaya (Lodhi Estate), received such emails. All were later declared hoaxes.

In 2022, a private school in Sadiq Nagar faced a similar threat, and in 2023, Delhi schools received threats on three separate occasions. In each case, the police discovered that students were behind the emails.

Authorities found that the students sent these threats to avoid exams, get a day off, or as a prank. The students were caught, counselled, and the incidents were resolved without harm.

Large-Scale Bomb Threats

Bomb threat emails were sent to more than 200 Delhi schools in May of last year. Hospitals, universities, and possibly Indira Gandhi International Airport were among the other targets. These occurrences sparked worries about email security and students or pranksters abusing digital channels.

Delhi Police have warned schools to stay vigilant as they continue their thorough investigation into these threats. To maintain safety and avoid panic, they advise reporting questionable emails right away.

With the rise of such incidents, authorities are also reviewing security protocols in schools, including regular checks and drills, to ensure students and staff remain safe.
