Signalling and OHE Problems Result in Extensive Delays

Delhi Metro experienced its third technical glitch in a week on Monday, resulting in significant delays on the Yellow and Blue Lines. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said there was a signalling problem between Barakhamba and Indraprastha stations on the Blue Line, with trains running manually and services being slowed down.

Earlier today, the Yellow Line had disruptions at Millennium City Centre in Gurugram, when the reversal of trains towards Samaypur Badli was taking longer than normal. Platforms at Hauz Khas, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Yamuna Bank, and Kashmere Gate were packed, making commuters fight hard to board trains during rush hour.

“This was the third technical snag in a week,” a DMRC official said, underlining increased commuter irritation at repeated glitches.

Heavy Rainfall Causes OHE Short-Circuit

Blue Line evening services were disrupted because of heavy rains, which resulted in a tree branch crashing onto the Overhead Equipment (OHE) between Indraprastha and Barakhamba stations. This resulted in a short-circuit, stopping trains temporarily for almost 50 minutes.

The DMRC spokesperson clarified: “Normal services were maintained from Indraprastha to Vaishali-Noida Electronic City and Barakhamba to Dwarka. Trains ran on a single line from Barakhamba to Indraprastha to cope with disruptions.”

Passengers were advised using station announcements and onboard messages, following advice to take alternative routes. Services resumed normal following the resolution of the problem, though the incident contributed to the commuter bedlam in the city’s already congested metro system.

Commuters Advised to Remain Informed

The DMRC keeps technical systems and weather risks under close observation. Regular signalling and OHE failures, coupled with monsoon rains, are leading the metro authority to put out real-time information through social media.

Commuters are also recommended to pre-plan the trips, particularly during peak hour, and review the DMRC’s X and mobile app alerts for delays. Officials ensured that safety is given topmost priority and all incidents are dealt with to ensure a minimum of inconvenience during repairs.
