The Delhi Government announced the formation of a new expert group and a high-level implementation committee on December 6 to fight air pollution in the capital. The expert group will draft strategies for preventing, controlling, and mitigating pollution. The implementation committee, led by CM Rekha Gupta, will ensure those strategies are enforced without delay.
According to Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, the expert group will act as “a friend, philosopher and guide” to the government in the battle against air pollution.
In a move that further underscores our commitment to mitigating air pollution in Delhi, the Delhi Government has constituted an Expert Group on Air Pollution Mitigation.

Delhi Air Pollution: Expert Team & Implementation Committee Formed
The new expert group will bring together top environmental scientists, domain specialists and government officials. Their job: study pollution patterns, identify root causes, and recommend tailored solutions.
Meanwhile, the high-level committee — under the direct leadership of the Chief Minister — will supervise execution. It will monitor progress, ensure deadlines for action, and enforce accountability. As said, one will be the “brain” and the other the “arm” in the fight against pollution.
Delhi’s Smog Crisis Demands Urgent Action
Delhi has faced dangerously poor air quality recently — frequent “very poor” AQI days, persistent smog, and a public health concern for all citizens.
Authorities believe that only coordinated, high-level planning plus quick, strict enforcement can tackle the complex mix of pollution sources: dust from roads and construction, vehicular emissions, industrial pollutants, and waste burning.
Delhi Pollution Immediate Measures: From Potholes to Dust Control
As part of the new strategy, the government has ordered that all potholes across Delhi-NCR be repaired within 72 hours. The idea: prevent dust from broken roads, reduce traffic congestion, and minimise dust-related pollution.
Construction sites and industries in the region have been warned: dust-control measures and emission norms must be strictly followed. Violations will lead to heavy penalties.
What It Means for Citizens?
Residents can expect stricter monitoring at construction and industrial sites as well as quicker road repairs. Government agencies will now face accountability — delays or negligence may lead to fines or other action.
The expert group is expected to propose long-term pollution-control measures, including preventive plans and cleanup schedules. The public is urged to support the effort — with better waste disposal, less burning of garbage, and compliance with dust-control rules.
With the new twin-structure of the brain (expert group) and arms (implementation committee), Delhi’s government aims to shift from reactive measures to a sustained, coordinated fight against air pollution. The coming weeks will show whether this strategy can bring the clean air the city needs.
