Heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Montha caused severe disruption to train and road transport in the Mahabubabad district of Telangana on Wednesday (October 29, 2025). Flooded railway tracks brought several trains to a halt, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded for hours.
The Golconda Express heading to Hyderabad was stopped at Dornakal Junction after the tracks were submerged in rainwater. Similarly, the Krishna Express bound for Tirupati was halted at Mahabubabad railway station. Several goods trains operating on the Warangal–Khammam route were also detained due to waterlogging on the tracks.
Police and Officials Lead Relief Efforts
Superintendent of Police (SP Sudhir Ramnath Kekan) personally supervised relief operations. He directed officers to prioritize passenger safety and provide basic assistance. Acting under his orders, Town CI Mahender Reddy, Rural CI Saravaiah, and Dornakal CI Chandramouli, along with police personnel, distributed water bottles, biscuits, and pulihora to passengers stranded at Dornakal, Gundrathumadugu, and Mahabubabad stations.
The district administration also arranged buses to help passengers continue their journeys to nearby towns and cities. SP Kekan said the police would “continue to assist people during emergencies.”
District Collector Adwait Kumar Singh visited Dornakal station along with the SP to assess the situation and ensure smooth coordination between departments.
Schools Closed as Heavy Rains Continue
With heavy downpour continuing across Mahabubabad, the district administration declared a holiday for all government and private schools. District Education Officer (DEO) Dakshina Murthy confirmed the decision, citing safety concerns for students and transportation difficulties caused by the flooded roads.
Low-Lying Areas Inundated
Continuous rainfall over the past 24 hours led to flooding in low-lying areas, damaging standing crops and disrupting road connectivity. Overflowing streams made several rural routes impassable, cutting off access to certain villages.
Authorities urged residents to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in flood-prone zones. The control rooms in the district are actively monitoring water levels and coordinating with disaster management teams to ensure timely relief.
Community Spirit Amid Crisis
Despite the challenges, the quick response from police and district officials helped prevent panic among stranded passengers. Relief measures and constant updates from authorities ensured public safety and minimized disruptions.
The Mahabubabad administration continues to monitor the weather situation closely, ready to deploy additional support if rainfall intensifies in the coming days.
