Congress on Wednesday released its manifesto promising 300 units of free electricity, Rs 2,500 for women and several other including a strong Lokpal Bill within six months of forming government in the national capital. The Congress also promised to launch a probe over the alleged Liquor scam, DJB scam and health scam if it comes to power in Delhi. It also pledged to conduct a caste census and also a dedicated ministry for Purvanchalis if voted to power.
The Congress, which lost its stronghold in 2013 to the AAP, is eyeing a comeback with a range of welfare promises, including a Rs 2,500 monthly grant for women, free electricity up to 300 units, and LPG cylinders at Rs 500. The manifesto was released by Congress general secretary and communication incharge Jairam Ramesh, Media and publicity department chairman Pawan Khera, Delhi Congress chief Devendra Yadav, Delhi manifesto committee chairman Chaudhary Anil Kumar, Amitabh Dubey, Udit Raj and several others.
Addressing the gathering, Ramesh said that this guarantee word is now being used by every political party. “But it was first taken up by the Congress in Karnataka Assembly elections. We wanted to give out a message to people that Cong will implement all of these promises. It is their right. When Dr Manmohan Singh was the PM, we had brought in Rozgaar guarantee Act,” the Congress Rajya Sabha MP said.
Announcing the glaive guarantees, he said, “Congress has mainly given five guarantees for the people of Delhi, which we have already announced.”
Highlighting the issue of air pollution in the national capital, the former Union Environment Minister said, “In Delhi, there is need of ease of breathing, not the ease of doing business because Delhi tops in pollution. It is because of the BJP’s policies as they never took it seriously. Same with AAP.  “For Yamuna action plan, we asked help from Japan govt. We were being assured that there will not be any financial crisis. Sheila Dikshit government had started CNG buses, Delhi metro,” Ramesh said.
In its manifesto the party promised to bring the strong Lokpal Bill ilwithin six months of government formation.  The party manifesto said that it aims to pass the Bill in the assembly and get it cleared by Lt Governor so that there us no delay the process of acting on corruption, which is good for AAP and the BJP. The party manifesto also said that it will conduct a thorough probe in the alleged Liquor scam, health scam and the Delhi Jal Board scam once it’s voted to power.
The Congress manifesto also structured around 22 focus areas, guaranting free health insurance up to Rs 25 lakh and free ration kits for the needy. Additionally, the party promises Rs 8,500 per month for one year to educated unemployed youth to tackle joblessness in the capital. To address food security, Congress pledged to set up 100 Indira canteens across Delhi, offering meals at just Rs 5.
