Congress’ 3rd Haryana List Includes 2 Leaders Who Filed Nominations Ahead of Announcement

In its third and largest list for the Haryana Assembly elections, Congress announced 40 candidates, bringing the total number of declared candidates to 81 out of 90 seats. The list includes Aditya Surjewala, son of Congress Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala, along with two candidates who had already filed their nominations before their official announcement by the party.

Aditya Surjewala will contest from Kaithal, a seat his father has won at least twice. The party has also fielded Karan Dalal, a relative of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, from Palwal, and Vikas Saharan, son of Congress MP Jai Parkash, from Kalayat. Both candidates had submitted their nominations before being officially named.

In Kosali, the party replaced Rao Yaduvender Singh, who lost in 2019, with Jagdish Yadav. The list includes five women candidates, including Pearl Chaudhary, Anita Yadav, Sumita Virk, Pooja Chaudhary, and Parag Sharma. Pooja Chaudhary is the wife of Varun Choudhary, who won from Mulana in 2019 and was elected an MP from Ambala this year.

Chander Mohan, son of former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, will contest from Panchkula, while Sombir Singh, son-in-law of former Chief Minister Chaudhary Bansi Lal, will contest from Badhra.

Voting will be held on October 5, with results announced on October 8. The BJP, in power since 2014, faces a challenge from a resurgent Congress, as the state’s 10 Lok Sabha seats were evenly split between the two parties earlier this year.
