BSF Prevents Currency Smuggling Bid At Ghojadanga Border

Border Security Force (BSF) personnel stationed at the Ghojadanga border outpost, South Bengal Frontier, achieved a significant feat by preventing a currency smuggling bid at the international border in North 24 Parganas.

A woman traveler hailing from Howrah district, West Bengal, was apprehended at the BSF checkpoint located at the Ghojadanga land customs station while attempting to illegally transport Rs. 4,02,200 in Indian currency and 10,500 Bangladeshi Taka from India to Bangladesh.

Prompt action was taken by the BSF troops at the Check Post (BCP) following specific intelligence received on June 7, 2024, regarding a passport passenger endeavoring to smuggle a considerable sum of Indian currency. The troops were placed on high alert.

Upon conducting routine baggage inspection, the BSF team intercepted the woman and discovered the concealed currencies in multiple poly bags within her luggage. Her inability to provide valid documentation and inconsistent statements further aroused suspicion, leading to her immediate apprehension and subsequent questioning at the Ghojadanga outpost.

During interrogation, the woman disclosed her frequent trips to Bangladesh to visit her younger sister in Kushkhali, Satkhira. On this particular occasion, she was found carrying significant amounts of illegal currency along with gold ornaments, including a bracelet weighing 15.040 grams and a gold ring.

The apprehended individual and the seized currency have been handed over to the Customs Department at Ghojadanga for further legal proceedings.

BSF’s Public Relations Officer, DIG A.K Arya, emphasized the force’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders and thwarting unlawful cross-border activities. The BSF continues to enhance its vigilance and bolster security measures to effectively combat such illicit activities.
