BJP Mahila Morcha Protests Belagavi Incident, Women’s Delegation Engages in Dialogue

Protests erupted in Bengaluru over the brutal assault and stripping of a 42-year-old woman in Vantamuri village, Belagavi district, Karnataka. The incident occurred on December 11, reportedly as a consequence of her son eloping with a girl from the same community. Members of the BJP’s Mahila Morcha and other workers staged a demonstration, condemning the prevailing law and order situation in Karnataka and accusing the government of failing to ensure citizens’ protection.

The victim was allegedly assaulted, stripped, and tied to an electric pole, prompting outrage and demands for justice. The incident has drawn national attention, with the National Commission for Women (NCW) sending a fact-finding team to investigate. A delegation of women Parliamentarians from the BJP also held a meeting over the incident.

Vijayapura Sinnura, an officer of Kakathi police station, was suspended for alleged negligence in handling the case. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notice to the state government, seeking a report on the action taken within four weeks. BJP national president JP Nadda condemned the incident and announced a five-member committee to gather facts.

The incident highlights the need for addressing gender-based violence, ensuring the safety of women, and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions. The protests underscore public demands for swift justice and a robust response to prevent such heinous crimes in the future.
