Thursday will see the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organize a grand swearing-in celebration for Delhi’s new Chief Minister. The event, set to occur at the famous Ramlila Maidan, will feature famous guests such as gig workers, cabbies, auto-rickshaw drivers, farmers, and slum chiefs. Sources indicate the BJP intends to demonstrate an all-encompassing governance model by inviting delegates from many sectors of society.

In line with the party’s ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas‘ ideology, the BJP has invited regular people directly benefiting from its social programs. Also among the special guests are women voters, who were key to the party’s electoral success. The BJP’s pledge of financial help and social protections seems to have resonated with the people, helping to sweep it to power.

Especially remarkable is the addition of farmers and rickshaw drivers since these groups have long been great backers of Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal (AAP). Also invited, farmers, who have been noisy about the Minimum Support Price (MSP) problem, show the BJP’s attempt to appeal to several electoral bases.

Meanwhile, BJP supporters have been enthusiastically sending out invites all over the city to guarantee that Delhi’s people engage as much as possible.

Notable politicians, diplomats, and celebrities to show up.

Other than regular people, several well-known visitors will grace the swearing-in festivities. Present will be top BJP figures, among them Union Cabinet members, Chief Ministers, and Deputy Chief Ministers from BJP-governed states. Over 50 Bollywood stars and businessmen have been invited to the party as well.

Also invited are foreign ambassadors from big nations with embassies and high commissions in Delhi. Atishi, the current Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and Devender Yadav, head of the Delhi unit of Congress, have also received courtesy invitations.

Suspense on the New Chief Minister of Delhi

The tension over who will become Delhi’s next Chief Minister persists among the extensive arrangements. Led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP’s Parliamentary Board convened previously to appoint Ravi Shankar Prasad and Om Prakash Dhankar as observers overseeing the selection process.

Scheduled for Wednesday at 6:15 PM is a gathering of recently elected BJP MLAs where the Chief Minister and cabinet members will be decided once and for all. According to sources, two-time MP Parvesh Verma, who overcame Arvind Kejriwal in the last election, is the frontrunner for the job.

Other potential candidates include BJP Delhi unit chief Virendra Sachdeva, prominent Brahmin politician Satish Upadhyay, and first-time MP Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of the late Sushma Swaraj. A female chief minister is also being discussed; Neelam Pahalwan, Rekha Gupta, Poonam Sharma, and Shikha Roy are some possible contenders.

Caste concerns are also causing the delay, similar to the selecting practices seen in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in 2023.

Grand oath ceremony arrangements and schedule

Starting at 11 AM, the swearing-in ceremony will end at 12:34 PM, with the Chief Minister swearing in at 12:05 PM. Sources from the venue state that organizers will arrange three levels.

  • One for the Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Lieutenant General VK Saxena, and the Narendra Modi Chief Minister.
  • Two seconds for invited religious leaders.
  • A third for more than 200 BJP and allied party MPs and MLAs.

The magnificent setup underlines the BJP’s desire to make this occasion a display of its electoral power and vision of governance for Delhi.

Delhi election results: BJP makes history runner court.

The BJP’s return to power in Delhi signals a major change in politics. Taking 48 of 70 seats, the party secured a landslide win. This is a clear departure from AAP’s past supremacy; in 2015 and 2020, it won 67 and 62 seats, respectively. This time, AAP won only 22 seats—a major blow—to be sure.

The Congress party suffered still one more electoral defeat as it made no significant difference in the votes.

All eyes are now on the BJP’s last statement on the new Chief Minister of Delhi since the oath-taking ceremony is to be a magnificent event. The decision will determine the party’s ruling direction in the national capital for the next several years.
