Delhi Excise Policy Case: SC grants interim bail to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal till June 1

The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s request for temporary release in a money laundering case involving the excise policy case has been granted by the Supreme Court of India on May 10. The bail request is valid until June 1.

The AAP chief is requested to turn himself in on June 2 by the highest court. The leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was taken into custody on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate. He is presently detained by the courts and housed at Tihar Jail.

Atishi, an AAP leader and minister in Delhi, says, “This is a victory for democracy and the constitution, since truth has prevailed via the Supreme Court’s ruling, not just for Arvind Kejriwal who was granted intermediate bail. In defending democracy, the SC has been crucial.
Earlier, the Supreme Court delayed Kejriwal’s bail request until May 7. The judge stated at the hearing that he would abstain from accepting any official responsibilities in the event that Arvind Kejriwal was granted temporary bail. On May 20, a Delhi court decided to prolong Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody.
Judges Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta made up the bench, and on May 7, they had set aside their decision regarding Mr. Kejriwal’s provisional bail.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national chief Arvind Kejriwal was detained on 21 March by the Enforcement Department (ED) in connection with a money laundering case pertaining to the purported liquor policy scandal. He is being held in judicial custody at the Tihar jail at the moment.
