Bengaluru: Couple Kill Their Children, Then Die by Suicide

A family of four, including a software consultant, his wife, and their two children, were found dead in their rented home in Bengaluru. Police are investigating the incident as a suspected murder-suicide.

The deceased have been identified as Anup Kumar (38), his wife Rakhi (35), their 5-year-old daughter Anupriya, and their 2-year-old son Priyansh. Originally from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, the family had been living in Bengaluru for Anup Kumar’s job as a software consultant in a private company.

On Monday morning, the family’s house help arrived for work but received no response despite repeated attempts to contact the family. Concerned, the house help alerted the neighbors, who then contacted the police. Upon entering the home, officers found the bodies of the couple and their children.

An initial investigation revealed that Anup and Rakhi had poisoned their children before taking their own lives by hanging. According to news agency IANS, the couple may have been emotionally distressed, reportedly due to their elder child’s health condition. Anupriya, who had special needs, was said to have been a source of stress for the parents, according to statements from their house help.

Despite appearing to be a happy family, with plans to visit Pondicherry already in place and packing completed by Sunday, the tragedy unfolded. Police also learned that the family employed three domestic workers, including two cooks and a caregiver for their children, each earning Rs 15,000 per month.

So far, no suicide note has been found at the scene. The police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation.
