With the new month of August beginning today, individuals in all over India will be eagerly interested to learn about Bank Holidays in August this year. Below is a glimpse at the August 2025 bank holidays, as per the calendar released by the Reserve Bank of India.
According to RBI bank holiday schedule, banks will be shut for as much as 15 days in August in various regions of India. But this doesn’t signify that all banks at all locations will remain shut for 15 days because bank holidays vary from place to place.
Major Festivals and National Holidays in August
The August bank holidays consist of holidays on account of Ganesh Chaturthi, Rakshabandhan, Independence Day, Janmashtami and weekend listed holidays.
Banks remain shut on every Sunday and the second and fourth Saturdays in India. Banks in India, such as State Bank of India (SBI), ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank, will also remain shut on August 15 on account of Independence Day celebrations.
Will Banks Remain Open on August 2?
Adding to the interest of the public, curiosity has surrounded whether banks would be open on August 2, the first Saturday of the month. In contrast with the second and fourth Saturdays which are off days for banks, the first Saturday is normally a working day. Banks will thus be open on August 2 in the majority of the country.
Note should be taken, however, that some local holidays could also impact banking activities in particular states or districts. Buyers are advised to refer to the holiday list issued by their respective banks or inquire from the local branches to prevent inconvenience.
